Director After completing a PhD in satellite imagery and aerial photography, Mike worked for a leading environmental consultancy. Here he developed environmental policies and created the first supplier environmental questionnaire for a leading UK retailer. During a year spent studying forest management he created the first academic thesis on sustainable forest certification. Mike then worked for SGS Forestry, a subsidiary of SGS, the world’s biggest inspection company. While based in Oxford, he helped to develop the Principles and Criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the world’s leading forest certification scheme. This led to the creation of the post of Environment Division Head for SGS in South-East Asia. Based in Jakarta, Mike took full P&L responsibility for SGS environmental management system consultancy and FSC certification services throughout the region. As well as leading certification audits across Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea, Mike also lead a pan-Indonesia pre-IPO due diligence audit of a major timber group. Since returning to the UK, under the banner of his business Great Circle, Michael has advised companies in the clean tech, clean energy and geographic information sectors on marketing, branding and commercialisation. For example, he has: Revived and re-launched the Bartholomew mapping brand for HarperCollins emerging digital data business. Devised and created corporate sustainability reports for companies such as Scottish & Newcastle and Macsween. Michael has created Moving Conversations [www.youtube.com/user/futuristcinema], an entertaining panel debate that is enlivened with clips from ITN Source, the leading broadcast footage archive. Michael is also a founder and co-Director of consumer products company, Totseat and digital content company Futurist Cinema. |
