The Coalition Agreement states:

We will reinstate an Operating and Financial
Review to ensure that directors’ social and
environmental duties have to be covered in
company reporting, and investigate further
ways of improving corporate accountability
and transparency.

Regardless of the ultimate legislative outcome, the drive for greater disclosure and transparency is extending beyond larger listed corporate. Smaller companies’ environmental and social governance is, and will be increasingly scrutinised by policy makers, customers, financiers, communities and employees.

Now is the time therefore to get to grips with sustainability data and prepare to report on performance. It need not be a painful and expensive exercise.
